After the Goatfeathers Fire, Blue Mountain Beach's Seafood Run Points East and North

For 38 years, the fresh-fish counter on the west end of Scenic Highway 30A has been at 3865 W. County Highway 30A. Goatfeathers began there as Over The Market Restaurant on May 19, 1988, and took its current name in 1989, according to the business's own history. That counter has been closed since August 12, 2026, when a fire tore through the second floor. Every other place in this area that lists retail Gulf seafood has a "W" missing from its address. Getting fish and shrimp from Blue Mountain Beach now means driving east along 30A, north on Highway 331, or planning around a single weekday morning.

What Happened at 3865 W. 30A

WJHG reported that South Walton Fire District crews were called to Goatfeathers near the Gulfview Heights neighborhood just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12. They found heavy fire on the second floor. Staff were inside at the time and got out, and no injuries were reported. Crews worked for hours to keep the roof and second floor from collapsing, and 30A stayed closed in both directions at the Gulfview Heights intersection until the next morning.

WJHG also reported that SWFD investigators and the State Fire Marshal's Office said their first findings pointed to an accidental fire that began in the kitchen, and that the business was significantly damaged. A separate MyPanhandle story said officials had not yet released details on the cause.

Two months later, we haven't found a public rebuilding or reopening timeline. The Goatfeathers website still shows the market's regular hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Those are the pre-fire hours, not a sign that it has reopened. On August 21, Fellowship 30A started a GoFundMe for Goatfeathers employees who lost work when the business closed. It's the clearest public path for anyone who wants to help the people who worked behind that counter.

The Name Is Still Listed on Two Other Doors

The flagship is dark, but the Goatfeathers name has more than one address. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services lists Goatfeathers II as a seafood retail market at 4042 E. County Highway 30A, phone (850) 231-4004. Goatfeathers East's online ordering page calls it a gift shop and market open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. When we checked, the page also showed it as closed, so call before you count on it.

The third location is Goatfeathers at 30Avenue, at 12805 US-98, Suite O101, in Inlet Beach. 30A.com describes it as a seafood spot with in-store orders, dine-in and takeout. Its own site calls it a seafood market and café, and its menu files are dated May 2026. We couldn't confirm whether it was open on any given day this month.

The flagship sat on West 30A, the same side of the county as Blue Mountain Beach. Both remaining Goatfeathers locations are to the east, one on East 30A and one out on Highway 98 at Inlet Beach.

The Rest of the Map

Beyond the Goatfeathers name, four other options in our research list retail Gulf seafood. They fall into three directions from Blue Mountain Beach, and each fits a different kind of trip.

Where Address What it lists Listed hours
Buddy's Seafood Market 5231 E. Co. Hwy 30-A, Seagrove Wild-caught Florida shrimp, grouper, snapper, mahi, yellowfin tuna, housemade tuna dip and crab dip, gumbo 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days
T's Catch Seafood Market 16469 Hwy 331 S., Ste. 104, Freeport Fresh Gulf fish, shrimp, scallops, steamed shrimp, prepared foods Mon to Sat 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sun noon to 5 p.m.
Market 30A 13063 Highway 98 East, Inlet Beach Gulf shrimp, oysters, grouper, yellowfin, cobia, snapper, seafood dips, gumbo, étouffée 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily; steamer closes 5:30 p.m.
30A Farmers Market at Greenway Station Santa Rosa Beach, just off 30A Gulf tuna, red snapper, wild-caught shrimp, crab cakes, smoked fish dips Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., seasonal

Buddy's in Seagrove is the closest match to the old Goatfeathers counter in what it sells. Buddy's website describes a retail market with a takeout steam bar, wild-caught Florida shrimp, local fish when it's available, and its own tuna dip, crab dip, gumbo and sauces. Its listed 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. schedule is close to the 9-to-6 day the flagship listed, so a late-afternoon fish stop still works.

T's Catch in Freeport goes the other direction, north on 331 instead of east on 30A. A 2023 profile on Hwy331.com describes a family-run market selling fresh Gulf fish, shrimp, scallops, steamed shrimp and prepared foods. Its hours come from that 2023 profile and a matching directory listing. The domain once tied to the business now shows unrelated content, so the phone or a drive-by is the most reliable check.

Market 30A in Inlet Beach is the farthest drive. It's also the only one in this group that lists oysters, mussels, clams and cobia along with the usual shrimp and grouper, plus étouffée and jambalaya to go. Its steamer closes half an hour before the market's 6 p.m. close.

Greenway Station on Wednesdays is the only option that comes to the Santa Rosa Beach side instead of sending you east. The 30A Farmers Markets site, updated in late September 2026, lists the Greenway Station market as seasonal, on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It describes seafood "straight off the boat from the Gulf of Mexico," including tuna, red snapper, wild-caught shrimp, crab cakes and smoked fish dips. The same operator lists a Saturday market at Grand Boulevard. Seaside's market page lists Saturday hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. but doesn't name a seafood vendor, so don't plan on fish there.

How the Old Errand Splits Up Now

The flagship covered three kinds of trips in one stop: a quick daily pickup, a big order for guests, and something prepared to carry home. With it closed, each of those trips goes somewhere different.

  1. Wednesday's catch. The Greenway Station market is the one listed seafood source that doesn't require heading east. Its four-hour window works best as a midweek habit.
  2. The afternoon stop. Buddy's in Seagrove and Goatfeathers East both sit on East 30A, a few blocks apart by address number, and both list hours into the early evening. If you're already out that way for errands, they cost little extra time. Check East's status first.
  3. The big order up 331. T's Catch fits any trip north toward Freeport, and it lists Sunday hours from noon to 5 p.m.
  4. The full spread. Market 30A and Goatfeathers at 30Avenue are both out in Inlet Beach. Market 30A lists the widest shellfish selection of the group, which matters for a crowd or a holiday table.

Every Listed Hour Comes With an Asterisk This Week

All the hours above come from the businesses' own pages or directory listings, and none of those pages has posted an update since the storm. Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin around 9:30 p.m. EDT on Friday, October 9, as a Category 2 storm with 105-mph maximum sustained winds, according to the governor's office. On Sunday, CHELCO's CEO told WJHG that 93% of the co-op's customers had lost power, that more than half had it back, and that he expected restoration by Tuesday at the latest.

Businesses are reopening on different schedules. Seaside's announcements said its commercial area would stay closed through Monday, October 12, because the power was still out. The Dawson Group's update said all of its restaurants, including Stinky's Fish Camp, were closed October 10 and would reopen when possible. Walton County's storm FAQ, updated Sunday, October 11, said regular garbage collection would resume on its normal schedule Monday, with storm debris picked up separately in the days ahead.

A fresh-seafood counter depends on refrigeration. Until a market confirms that its coolers and steamer are running again, a phone call before the drive east or north is the safest first step.

Here at Lynne Andrews Luxury Collective, we track the businesses that shape a 30A week as closely as we track the homes around them. When Goatfeathers or any other Blue Mountain Beach staple posts real reopening news, we'll share it.
